Noticed an increase in unsightly vacant lots? Those fences with green tarp over them? So has the Commission. In an effort to reduce the number of vacant lots and improve their appearance, the Commission voted this week to approve new requirements for the demolition of single-family homes. These new rules are the same that are already in place for historic homes and require construction either be approved prior to demolition or that certain standards be met for appearance and upkeep of a vacant lot after demolition and prior to construction. The City will now send first notices to owners of properties that do not meet the new standards and then begin to issue fines.
