Bayshore Neighborhood Association Open House

From the City:
In partnership with the Bayshore Homeowners Association, the City of Miami Beach is hosting an open house on Tuesday, April 4 to address questions on sea level rise, flooding and stormwater design. 
                                    
The city has assembled a talented team of experts, which will be available for more personalized conversations at a series of stations in anticipation of the Central Bayshore’s neighborhood construction project. The meeting will open to the public at 6 p.m.

Science & Scenarios
Check out several Miami Beach prototypes, created by Coastal Risk Consulting — a local firm of scientists and engineers that understand the city’s unique vulnerabilities to sea level rise and climate change —to help visualize and understand flood risk over time. Attendees will be encouraged to find which prototype most closely matches their home.
 
AECOM’s Adaptation Calculator
Understand elevation in layman’s terms when you visit this station manned by AECOM. Participants can find out the height of the new storm drain inlets and road, along with how the improved drainage system is designed to handle more water in the event of a storm.  
 
Engineers at Work
Meet with the city’s assistant city manager of public works and the director of capital improvement projects to receive details on the work, timeframe and how to harmonize this new construction with personal property.  
 
The Mysteries of Flood Insurance 
Meet the city’s floodplain manager whose job is to implement ordinances and policies to prevent flood damage. He guides the Community Rating Program — saving residents and businesses on insurance premiums $6 million annually. Along with the city’s deputy chief resilience officer, they have been working with FEMA to sort through the many questions about flood insurance.
