41st Street Master Plan Committee Named:

Group will look at transforming street into a town center

Mayor Dan Gelber has created a Master Plan Committee for 41st Street (aka Arthur Godfrey Road) “to help reimagine this important boulevard”. In a letter to residents, Gelber called the street, one of the primary access points to Miami Beach, “the central boulevard in Mid-Beach” but, he wrote, “[I]t has never been a true town center for our residents. Candidly, it has been neglected for decades.”
Gelber wants a plan that he hopes will make the street “more usable to our residents, enhance its aesthetics, and transform it into a true town center for Mid-Beach”.
The Master Plan Committee will work with City Staff and a professional planner. Gelber says, “The Committee will not be responsible for originating all of the ideas that will ultimately be implemented.” That, he wrote to the community, is “your responsibility”. The Committee will convene workshops with residents and merchants and Gelber is urging them to give input and share ideas.
“My belief,” he wrote, “is that if we can develop true town centers in our City, we can alleviate much of the congestion and enrich our sense of community. Arthur Godfrey Road should be one of those centers.”
Members of the Committee are:
Seth Gadinsky, Chair
Betty Behar
Michael Bernstein
Yechiel Ciment
Francisco Diez-Rivas
Eric Hankin
Jerri Hertzberg Bassuk
Robin Jacobs
Kayla Rynor
Jeremy Wachtel
