Miami Beach Commissioners approved a one-year reprieve program for owners of single family, multifamily residential, mixed use or commercial properties who have failed to obtain a building permit or have expired permits. Sponsor Micky Steinberg said “It is intended to have the process be something where people want to come forward and, hopefully, rectify any permit issues they may have.” The incentive, she said, is no penalty for one year from May 1 through April 30, 2018.
Deputy City Attorney Eve Boutsis explained, “If you have open permits or work done without a permit that you have not received a red tag from the building department on you can voluntarily come in and there’s no additional charges and you can cure those issues.” She added a caveat, “If you have a zoning problem, you still have to take care of the zoning problem. That doesn’t go away.” Nor do fire code violations.
If you are uncertain if your home has outstanding permit issues, call the Building Department at 305-673-7610.
