Section of Beachwalk Completed in Mid-Beach:
Area from 53rd to 64th streets is now open
A new section of the Miami Beach Beachwalk opened this week. The area extending from Allison Park at 64th Street to just north of 53rd Street is now available for public use providing a continuous path from 53rd to 79th Street. The project included installation of an on-grade ADA accessible pathway, removal of non-native dune vegetation replaced by native dune vegetation and beach compatible dune fill, and turtle-friendly lighting.
City Manager Jimmy Morales wrote Commissioners that “In the following thirty days, the contractor will be addressing minor corrective items and removing temporary fencing" on the recently opened segment.
Access is at 53rd via a temporary pedestrian pathway until the permanent connection is made with the area currently under construction between 47th and 53rd Streets which is anticipated to be completed in March, according to Morales.
This summer, Miami Beach was awarded a $3 million grant from the State for the Beachwalk construction. Eventually, there will be a continuous path from South Pointe Park to the City’s boundary at 87th Terrace.
