Following our publication of the news that City Manager Jimmy Morales notified Miami Beach Commissioners he was terminating North Beach Yard's lease, we learned that North Beach Yard co-founder Della Heiman had released a statement regarding her “pivoting away” from the North Beach Yard project “after three years due to financial, operational and strategic barriers.”
When contacted by RE:MiamiBeach Friday morning that we had heard NBY was not moving forward, Heiman indicated in an email that “my schedule is packed” and suggested I send her questions that she would respond to by the following Thursday.
Later that evening she released her statement to another media outlet with follow-on stories by others that included the statement which you can read in full here. Unfortunately, we read it like everyone else after RE:MiamiBeach’s story had gone to publication.
Not included in any of the subsequent articles was the memo sent by Morales on Thursday (the day before Heiman’s statement) indicating his plan to terminate the lease. As indicated to Heiman when she said she was not available to respond until a week later, we would be happy to include her response in a follow-up story. We’d still like to have her answer our questions about NBY but she has indicated to others that she will not be making any further comment beyond her statement.
