Lincoln Court-Purdy Ave Pedestrian Bridge Design Selected:
Link across Collins Canal expected to open this fall
After months of delays, the West Avenue pedestrian bridge is back on track. At a community meeting this week, residents selected the final design (above) from five options presented by the City. If all goes according to schedule, the bridge could be open this fall.
Melissa Rodriguez, community outreach specialist, said the bridge with a “bubble side pattern” will be constructed of aluminum with wood decking. Two ADA compliant ramps will be located on the north and south ends of the pedestrian bridge.
“The pedestrian bridge will be prefabricated offsite and then installed over the Collins Canal,” Rodriguez wrote in an email. It will connect Lincoln Court with Purdy Avenue.
Construction is scheduled to begin this August with an anticipated opening in October. However, budget issues could delay the process. Rodriguez wrote, “Please note that City staff may need to present the final aesthetic budget to Commission. Any additional costs will need to be approved by Commission and may delay the project schedule by two months. If the schedule is delayed I will be sending an advisory to the community with the updated completion date.”
